Open Air Concert: Bring your picnic baskets and seats to enjoy some alfresco music in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Church.  As twilight falls over the beautiful Blackwater Estuary, the audience will be serenaded with the sometimes soulful, sometimes joyful but always extraordinary counter-tenor singers.  The performance will be staged inside if weather requires!

Programme: James Bowman was the first really well-known counter-tenor in the modern era and is attributed with reigniting interest in the counter-tenor voice and, consequently, his contribution to music was immeasurable. He was also Maldon Festival’s first patron and appeared many times here, both as a performer and giving masterclasses. Sadly, he died just before Easter this year and this programme, given by a group of young counter-tenors, is a tribute to a long and successful international career.
